My Little Queenie

My Little Queenie
(Michael McAdam)
from my second story window, looking down on city park
she crossed the street at Laurel, by the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart
as a band played Little Queenie, out of tune but really loud
she crisscrossed at the fountain, and disappeared into the crowd
oh, my little queenie, i was just too young to understand
oh, my little queenie, i watched you slip right through my hands
she was last seen in Sedona, making turquoise jewelry there
with her little dog named Bijou, at the Verde Valley Fair
well, you can sit all day and wonder, why things don't turn out like they're planned
how the best laid dreams can vanish, like little castles in the sand
oh, my little queenie, i was just too young to understand
oh, my little queenie, i watched you slip between my hands

A Northern Girl

A Northern Girl
(Michael McAdam)
she made her way on the southbound train with little Richie on her knee
leaving behind the slippery streets, where you don't get a pedigree
they judge her by the clothes she wears
how loud she laughs and the way she swears
she's a northern girl
where she comes from, they just don't see things that way
a northern girl
she warms the nights and illuminates every day
back in the day they built boats and ships, her daddy worked down by the shore
a pauper's wage and a place to fall, but they don't build shit anymore
she only did what she had to do
she took the train, little Richie too
(chorus)
she loves me with her heart and hand
she has my back, and she understands, yeah, yeah, yeah
she made her way on the southbound train with little Richard on her knee
leaving behind the dingle streets, where you won't pedigree
they judge her by the clothes she wears
how loud she laughs and the way she swears
she's a northern girl
where she come from, they just don't see things that way
a northern girl, she warms the nights and illuminates every day
she's a northern girl

Kingdom Come
(Michael McAdam)
Oldsmobile barreling down the highway
that's still my vision when i think about you
Nancy & Sid, they're doing My Way
turn down the radio, take in the view
one chance to undo
what it was Atlanta did to you
kingdom come, why you wanna run
hey don't you know that babe ya never come back
kingdom come, got yourself a gun
hey don't ya do that, baby won't you come back now
late tonight, meet me at the gold rush
go up the stairs where we used to shoot pool
we'll laugh too loud and drink a little too much
and raise our glasses to the rock block's jewel
one chance to undo
what it was Atlanta did to you

Venus
(Jana Light)
love drunk minstrel waiting for his lover by the back stairs
poised to make a brand-new impression, so he shaved his face and cut his hair
he'll call to mind the days she never left his side, not for one minute
and you don't know just how love is gonna go, 'til you're stuck in it
feels like venus lost her desire
it's as if phoenix put out his fire
hey now, now what am i gonna do
when I can't be me without you
if i was a rich man I'd build a temple to show my grief
and if i was a fine painter, I would paint you here with me
now you may be a bothered little butterfly, trying hard to unfold your wings
but i wasn't ready for that small dark place, wasn't ready for you to leave
(chorus)
these love forsaken summer nights are sinking in
and i'm gonna walk this lonesome valley all by myself once again
i guess i'll live my life a sinner 'til we're lying 'neath the cherry tree
when you get to the land of milk and honey throw a little down to me
(chorus)
feels like flowers forgot to bloom
seems like sky's gone missing blue
hey now, now, how will i make it through
when I can't be me, without you

Hand on the Trigger
(Michael McAdam and James Davey Eggleston)
take my hand, hold on tight
save your breath and it'll be alright
you got your gaze under the gun
now we'll drive west, through the setting sun
you got your hand on the trigger, got your hand on the trigger
got your hand on the trigger, it's only up to you
now what you gonna do?
you kicked and burned, and you screamed inside
and they fed you lies so long and bled you dry
now the highway key is in your hand
make your move right now and baby make your stand
got your hand on the trigger, got your hand on the trigger
got your hand on the trigger, it's only up to you
and if your aim is true

Little Places
(Michael McAdam)
when i was young this was the country
we used to cruise out here at night and drink beer
milk cows, barns and mules and tractors
was all you ever saw back when the farmers lived here
now SUVs all line the highway
and i could barely believe my own eyes
big swimming pools and shiny mansions
why would someone ever need a house near that size
when love lives in little places
and grows stronger most every day
in nooks and crannies and open spaces
in Volkswagens and Chevrolets
now i used to dream of fame and fortune
but here lately my desires are few
i finally listened when someone showed me
love is all you need, and I believe that it's true
'cause love lives in little places
and grows stronger most every day
in nooks and crannies and open spaces
in Volkswagens and Chevrolets

Allentown
(Michael McAdam)
as she tiptoed out the door, he was passed out on the floor
she'd packed it up, and almost changed her mind
she'll be three or four states gone
when he curses the alarm
but she's pointed south on highway 309
now it's the last time she crosses the Lehigh county line
and they'll all cut their losses when she leaves it all behind
'cause he used her up when he'd get jacked up
and he kicked her when she's down
and she won't be going back to Allentown
from the Pennsylvania hills to just past Jacksonville
she’s tired, scared but twenty four and free
but his MasterCard she found, now she won't be slowing down
'til she gets to where the highway meets the sea
and it's the last time she crosses the Lehigh county line
and they'll all cut their losses when she leaves it all behind
and she'll make her stand, ashes to the sand, in this paradise she's found
and she's never going back to allentown
and it's the last time she crosses monroe county line
and they all cut their losses when she left it all behind
but she'll make her stand, ashes to the sand, in this paradise she's found
and she won't be going back no more
she won't be going back for sure
she's never going back to allentown
